OMEGA is a watch brand that we really love; it’s one of the most common watches to pass through our New York City watch repair shop, whether for tune-ups, service, or repairs. As always with my monthly blog post, I’d like to focus on some news from OMEGA, in this case, the re-released vintage Seamaster 300, now available in Bronze Gold or Burgandy. The watch is exciting update for watch lovers and deep sea explorers alike. This iconic watch was originally released in 1957. Today, the watch has been reimagined to merge its retro vibe with more modern features.
TECHNICAL FEATURES
Let’s examine some technical features. The updated 41mm stainless steel version boasts an eye-catching black dial and black oxalic anodized aluminum bezel along with a diving scale filled with old rad Super-LumiNova, (Super-LumiNova is a brand name under which strontium aluminate–based non-radioactive and nontoxic photoluminescent or afterglow pigments for illuminating markings on watch dials, hands and bezels, etc. in the dark are marketed.) The recessed hour markers and open numerals are also treated to glimmer with Super-LumiNova, readable anywhere. The hands are also finished with rhodium (Rhodium is a chemical element; it has symbol Rh and atomic number 45. It is a very rare, silvery-white, hard, corrosion-resistant transition metal. It is a noble metal and a member of the platinum group). Yes, I guess it’s a lot of tech talk, but just know that the watch is super cool.
Generally, OMEGA isn’t just in it for the good looks of the watch, however. There’s some real cutting edge stuff inside the time. Examples would be the smoothness of the Coaxial escapement (ensuring lasting accuracy), and the silicon balance spring (providing better resistance to magnetism). These characteristics ensure the watch lives up to top specifications for watch performance, and is therefore an option for those who want to wear the watch underwater, whether in a New York City pool or deep sea diving in the Caribbean.
CUSTOMIZE THE WATCH
If desired, you can further customize the watch. OMEGA offers the Seamaster 300 with a more casual brown leather strap and transparent sapphire crystal caseback. It lets enthusiasts view the insides of the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8912. The Seamaster 300 is more than a timepiece, however, it is also a slice of history. And it’s still one of the most sought-after watches by collectors and deep-sea diving fans. More than 60 years after its original provenance release This revamp has completely redesigned the latest model with the integration of advanced technologies and materials such as Liquidmetal™, OMEGA Ceragold™, ceramic, and Bronze Gold. There are even some models with dials made from exotic lapis lazuli and malachite.
CULTURAL ICONS
Now, let’s look at its relationship to movie icons. Taking inspiration from the James Bond franchise, the watch pays homage to Bond, who has sported Omega watches prominently. Inspired by Daniel Craig’s own watch in the movie, No Time To Die, the new Seamaster Diver 300M model comes in both bronze gold and grade 2 titanium. So it comes together with a retro look in mind and modern materials, which is a departure from the more classic ceramic dive watches.
