Everyone is concerned about COVID-19, and all people of good will are trying their best to deal with the Pandemic yet keep our economy going. An example is the Indianapolis 500 race. A KEEN EYE ON THE INDUSTRY
We keep a keen eye on the watch industry, and we were very heartened to see not only the return of the Indianapolis 500, but also the prominence of TAG Heuer brand at the Speedway. TAG Heuer has been synonymous with the sport of automobile racing, perhaps more than any other luxury watch brand. This year marks its 16th year as the official timekeeper for the Indianapolis 500! It was super positive that the race was held after being postponed in a respectful manner as we all struggle to stay safe during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Here are some details of the latest Formula 1 TAG Heuer watch. The watch cognoscenti know that each year it is a tradition that the Swiss watchmaker release a special edition of its Formula 1 watch in order to pay tribute to the Indianapolis 500 and the Indianapolis motor Speedway.
The black tricompax dial of the Formula 1 43 mm Indy 500 2020 is distinguished by its asphalt-like pattern and brick-motif red stripe on the right side, a graphic depiction of the famous “Brickyard” remnant and its history. The 43-mm diameter case is made of black DLC-coated steel with a sandblasted finish; its fixed tachymeter-scale bezel is made of black sandblasted ceramic and sports an “Indy 500” logo in red. The hand, numerals and indices are rhodium-plated and coated with white Super-LumiNova.
Behind the screwed down, black-PVD-steel caseback, with its special Indy 500 engraving, beats a Swiss quartz movement, which powers the hours, minutes, small seconds (at 3 o’clock), date (at 4:30), and 1/10-second chronograph. The readouts for the chronograph’s elapsed minutes and hours are at 9 o’clock and 6 o’clock, respectively; the latter subdial features the Indy 500 logo, and also serves as a counter for the 1/10-seconds. Both subdials have a subtle azurage pattern that contrasts with the asphalt texture of the main dial. The watch comes on a perforated black rubber-and-leather strap, with a steel pin buckle. Limited to 1,500 pieces, and available as of August 2020, the TAG Heuer Formula 1 43 mm Indy 500 2020 Special Edition is priced at $2,050.

Many of the watch lovers who live or work in New York City are also fans of TAG Heuer watches. They may not own the latest Formula 1 watch, but they may own another representation of the storied brand. Watches, like race cars, need to be kept in tip top condition. One of the marvels of the TAG Heuer timepieces is that they have moving parts, just like cars. Over time, therefore, they need to be repaired and serviced.
