Longines Watch Repair and Service, NY, NY

Longines Watch Repair - New York, NYAuguste Agassiz started making watches in St Imier in Switzerland in 1832, shortly thereafter establishing the firm Agassiz & companies. Ernest Francillon, Agassiz’s nephew (by marriage), entered the firm, becoming responsible for running the company in the mid-1850s. Ernest (whose descendent), Ward Francillon, purchased land and built a factory near St Imier in an area known as “Les Longines” in 1866, thus establishing Longines. Within a decade, the concept of conducting all of the operations of finishing watches in one plant, using the machine methods developed in the United States, as opposed to the traditional method of passing the movement from shop to shop for each craftsman to perform his specialty task, was proven successful. In 1889, the winged hour glass trade mark, denoting high grade watches, was registered with the Swiss Patents Office. Over 1,100 people were employed at the Longines factory by 1911. Longines, now a member of the Swatch Group S.A., is still marketing watches worldwide today.

Repairing your Longines Watch

Your Longines watch is a precision timepiece and it needs regular interval servicing for it to work accurately. Longines recommends complete repairs be done every 3-5 years. The 2 types of repairs are…

Partial Maintenance (when battery is changed)

  • Replacement of all seals and gaskets using only Longines parts
  • Restoration of water resistance to Longines factory requirement
  • Ultrasonic cleaning of case and bracelet
  • Final inspection, visual and technical

Complete Overhaul and reseal (every 3-5 years)

  • I disassemble the movement completely and replace any worn or broken parts with genuine Longines replacements.
  • Then the watch is reassembled, oiled and regulated to Longines factory specifications
  • I then replace all gaskets and restore the water resistance to Longines manufacturer condition
  • The case and bracelet is refinished to original Longines specification
  • Then I test the watch for 72 hours before it is ready for my customer.

About the New York Public Library in Midtown, New York City, NY

The origins of this remarkable institution date back to the time when New York was emerging as one of the world’s most important cities. By the second half of the 19th century, New York had already surpassed Paris in population and was quickly catching up with London, then the world’s most populous city. Fortunately, this burgeoning and somewhat brash metropolis counted among its citizens men who foresaw that if New York was indeed to become one of the world’s great centers of urban culture, it must also have a great library.
